About

I’ve been a psychotherapist for twenty years, the last fifteen in Los Feliz, working with adults, teens, and couples.

Before private practice I worked in addiction treatment at Beit T’Shuvah and at Didi Hirsch, in a crisis residential program where many people arrived directly from psychiatric hospitalization.

Approach

A lot of people come to therapy having already thought pretty hard about what’s wrong. They may understand the pattern, know where it comes from, and still find themselves doing the same thing or feeling the same way. Insight helps, but it doesn’t always produce change on its own.

Over the first few sessions I try to get a full picture of what’s going on — what brought you in, where you’ve been, what else is happening in your life, and what you’d like to be different. From there the work depends on the person and the problem.

Sessions tend to be conversational. Sometimes we’re looking closely at patterns that have been around for years; sometimes it’s practical and about something happening this week. Usually both.

My training includes psychodynamic therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I don’t have a formula I apply to everyone. I use what seems useful for the person sitting in front of me.
